Description

TOMATO: Tomatoes are rich in vitamins and antioxidants, and the seeds are high in fiber. The green parts are mildly poisonous, which is not surprising, as tomatoes are closely related to both nightshade and tobacco. The tomato was originally believed to be poisonous when introduced into Europe, and was used solely as an ornamental plant during the 16th and 17th centuries. The first traces of its use as a food date back to the first half of the 18th century. Heirloom. Cherokee Purple seeds, originating from Tennessee, are thought to have been passed down from Native Americans of the Cherokee tribe. This heirloom tomato variety consistently ranks very high in taste tests. Slice Cherokee Purple tomato for rich, dark color and unmatched sweet, rich taste on sandwiches or in salads. The tomato is a beautiful dusky pink with a deep, rich-red interior. Cherokee Purple grows well in most regions of the U.S. Let the fruit ripen on the vine for the best flavor. This one is a consistent taste test winner at tomato fests around the country. For an heirloom, it is a good producer. In our Ohio test garden, where conditions are ideal and the season is long, we harvest and average of 20 or more fruits from each plant. Vigorous vines benefit from strong staking or caging.

I received 2 well packed healthy plants. They are doing well.

  2. Pam T

My plant arrived on good condition and has survived being transplanted to the garden. So far so good!

When I unwrapped these plants,I was concerned. They looked wilted and were not standing up. We hardened them ( our night temps were still 45-55) and then planted them. They seem to be doing fine so it appearance may just be characteristic of this plant. They came with excellent directions for hardening and planting.

Two of the three plants arrived good and healthy with well-established roots with the soil still slightly moist and the leaves a bit wilted but more than ready to perk back up. The other plant arrived, sadly, a little rotted at the base of the stem and likely throughout the root system. But I contacted the seller and within a few hours had a response and a replacement secured. They even promised to ship on a Monday so it wouldn’t sit over the weekend and risk it happening again. Very professional and courteous, would definitely recommend!
