1/16-oz or about 400 KOREAN PERILLA SHISO herb seeds; 들깨 깻잎 朝鮮紫蘇 シソ; non-GMO heirloom; very ornamental; Kitazawa Seed #260 Korean Perilla Perilla frutescens var. frutescens This large leaf perilla is a Korean specialty. The leaves are two-toned — bright green on top and light purple underneath. They have a unique flavor that tastes somewhere between mint and basil and are often used as a wrap for sushi and cooked food. Excellent as a microgreen for salads/garnish. Plants grow vigorously and show best color in warm temperatures. Warm season annual Maturity: Approx. 70 days Planting season: Late spring/early summer Germination Tip: To ensure good germination, sow shiso seeds on the soil surface and press in lightly. Do not cover with soil. These seeds require light to germinate, and burying seeds too deeply is the main cause of poor germination for most growers. Caution: Perilla can be very invasive, re-seed itself every spring (even in zone 5) and may take over your garden. So cutoff the flower stems before seeds mature, otherwise you could end up with thousands of them

I appreciated that I could track the seed package on USPS.com although it took some time to receive this package. The germination rate was great. I planted three seeds and got seedlings from all three seeds. Overall, I’m a happy customer!

These took slightly longer to sprout than the basil which I bought from the same vendor, but they are, by far, the healthiest plant sitting on my countertop. The first true leaves are just starting to come out (exactly one week after planting), and I’m excited to transplant them soon-ish.
