Santaka is a Japanese hot pepper that is from the Tochigi 栃木県 prefecture. The variety was released in 1955. It is spicy, good uniformity, and high yielding. Easy to harvest and dry peppers. Popular in Japan for their hot and spicy flavor, ‘Santaka’ peppers are only 2″ long, but pack a punch. Use fresh peppers in a variety of Asian dishes, such as stir-fries and soups. 40,000-50,000 SHU. Santaka has an intense, simple, heat. They do not have the complex flavor profile of some peppers, so their pure simple heat is more direct and easily balanced with other bold spices. Santaka are very prolific plants, may produce up to 150 peppers in a growing season, more if you can overwinter it indoor! Unlike most pepper varieties, Santaka pepper plants produce white flowers that grow fruit upright from the stems, making a beautiful ornamental presentation. Do well in containers.
