Description
120 Seeds Red Stem Malabar Spinach Seeds; heirloom non-GMO; basella alba; a.k.a. climbing spinach, creeping spinach, buffalo spinach, Ceylon spinach, Vietnamese spinach. Kitazawa Seed #223 Need more seeds? 15-gram large packet has ~600 seeds. Malabar spinach has many names Phooi leaf, Red Vine spinach, Creeping spinach, Climbing spinach, Indian spinach, Alugbati, Vietnamese Spinach, and Ceylon spinach. This lush vine grows best in tropical and subtropical climates and can reach up to 14′. It has reddish-purple stems, glossy dark green leaves, and grows more rapidly than the green stem variety. The leaves are used like spinach. In cooler areas, it will not over-winter but will produce a good harvest as an annual. Also grown as an ornamental. Warm season annual/perennial Maturity: Approx. 60 days Planting season: Late spring/early summer Takes about 10-15 days to germinate using heating pad & grow light. A bit longer if you plant directly outdoor, make sure soil temperature is at least 60F. Please note 150 seeds are more than plenty for a typical backyard home garden. Here in SW Chicago ‘burb Zone 5B, typically I sow Malabar seeds indoor around early May using just a single nursery tray filled with Jiffy organic seed starter mix. Under grow light and above heating pad, most Malabar seeds will germinate within two weeks. I usually ended up giving away 75% of the seedlings to gardening friends, as I only need 20 Malabar plants to produce weekly harvest for my own consumption. Malabar plants prefer full sun, warm summer temperature and moist soil. Do provide climbing structure such as meshed wire fence, bean nets, tee pees and/or trellis. Expect to harvest 1 to 3 lbs of leaves and tender stems per plant, depending on growing condition and first frost date.

Mr Liu rocks. His seeds just work. Everything I’ve bought from him germinates, grows well, and we’ve eaten and shared pounds and pounds of produce from those seeds. I just started these Malabar Vietnamese spinach seeds 5 d ago and half are already popping up, and they usually take over 10 days from what I’ve read. Also, he ships out fast, and he is always helpful if you need advice.

Great germination rate so far. Still cold up here in the PNW so it is growing slowly, but already looking healthy. Thanks!
