Description
4-gram or 1000 Seeds GARLIC CHIVE seeds; Chinese Chive; Allium tuberosum; 韮菜; Buchu 부추 germination rate 85%; tested 05/2021 Originating in western China, garlic chives have been used in Asian cuisine for thousands of years. This perennial veggie is very hardy and come back each spring and can be harvested half dozen times a year when leaves are about 12″ tall. The flower buds and stems 韮菜花 are also very tasty. Some growing tips: – do not harvest the chives during the first year, allow the seedlings to grow strong – organic matters would supplement the growth; compost or aged horse manure would be even better. – Light mulch would help keeping the soil moist hence promote root growth; mulch with chopped leaves or pine needles are fine too. – yellow chives 韮黃 can be had by cutting back the chives about 2″ above ground, then cover it with a big carton (to shield from sunlight) for two weeks. – do not allow flowered seeds to drop to the ground, as you may have thousands of seedlings by next spring; overcrowding would deprive nutrients to all chive plants. – after couple years, subdivide the root sections when a clump is getting too big (e.g. over 20 stems) – for green thumbs, in early spring, you can cover the garlic chive bed as cold frame to get an early harvest (late April for Chicago zone 5B) – partial shade is fine, I have seen them popping up (thanks to bird droppings?) below the shrubs or evergreens, and done quite well as ground cover or edible landscape 野菜 My favorite garlic chive recipes are: – chopped garlic chives with scrambled eggs 韮菜炒蛋; fast & easy; great side dish – garlic chive cut into 2″ segments, then stir fried with shredded pork, shredded dried bean curd and a touch of hot peppers 韮菜小炒 – garlic chive cut into 2″ segments, then stir fried with shrimp 韮菜炒蝦仁 – dumpling 韮菜餃子: chopped garlic chive with ground pork (or chopped shrimp) – garlic chive box 韮菜盒子: chopped garlic chive with scrambled eggs, ground pork (or chopped shrimp), shredded mung bean noodles – korean seafood pancake 韮菜海鮮餅: garlic chive cut into 1/2″ segments; flour, egg, shrimp, squid, fish cake, or any of your favorite seafood ingredients Need more seeds? Jumbo packet 20-gram has about 5000 seeds.

Well packaged. Seed looks good. Have not started them yet so no review of germination rate, but a guess will be a high rate. Thanks.
