(Heliopsis helianthoides) Perennial. Native. Ox-Eye Sunflower is an upright native perennial related to the sunflowers and is sometimes called False Sunflower. This multi-branched plant blooms early and attracts many pollinators and songbirds. Branches will be loaded with single and double bright yellow flowers from July until frost. Ox Eye sunflower is a short lived perennial that is very pest and disease resistant and makes a great cutflower. Easy to grow. Enjoys full morning sun and partial afternoon shade. Tolerates a wide range of soils and soil moisture levels. Sunflowers are some of my favorite flowers but it’s been years since I grew them. I think they’ll be perfect for a sunny area in my backyard.
