The fruit is pear-shaped with a crooked neck and has a very small seed cavity. It is white with orange stripes and has sweet yellow flesh. Fruit size 15 to 25 pounds. Germination rate 90%; tested 09/2020 Direct sow in late spring when soil is at least 60°F and frost danger has passed. Or start indoors or using cold frames few weeks earlier. Cushaw squash has pale yellow-orange flesh and a moist, tender texture. The flavor is mildly sweet, similar to a cross between a pumpkin and Butternut squash. Best applications: roasting, baking, boiling, freezing, and in baking recipes. The flesh can be eaten raw.
