(1/4-oz) ~500 Seeds organic Giant Winter Spinach seeds; 大葉過冬菠菜; Spinacia oleracea; GIGANTE D’ INVERNO The large dark green leaves are smooth, semi savoyed and flavorful. Wonderful steamed, or excellent in fresh spinach salads. High yielding variety recommended for fall crops, winter low-tunnel/greenhouse production, or overwintering outdoors under mulch. Incredibly cold hardy; specifically developed for overwintering for a spring crop. Here in Chicago zone 5B, we sow seeds by late summer or early autumn, harvest leaves before hard frosts, but not pulling the roots on healthy plants; then overwinter with heavy mulching outdoor, minimal mulching in low tunnels. Spring harvest is expected around mid April. Germination rate 95%; tested 08/2021 Cultivation: Baby Greens: 20-25 seeds/ft, 4” row spacing. Cover seeds with 1/4″ fine soil; harvest in 20-30 days Mature Greens: 10 seeds/ft, 12” row spacing. Cover seeds with 1/4″ fine soil; harvest in 45 days Apply nitrogen fertilizer to accelerate growth, but should stop fertilizing two weeks before harvest to prevent high nitrate content.
