Description
1/2-OZ We are offering the famous Fortex French filet pole bean seeds. The French people know their beans as part of their staple food, and Fortex & Emerite are the two highly sought after filet bean varieties for savvy home gardeners. Germination rate 93% / tested May 2021. Why should you plant Fortex this season??? – pole variety with vines up to 8-10 feet span; produce more than bush beans; 75 days for the first harvest continuing until frost. – beans are 7-11” long; probably the longest of the western varieties (see our other listings for Asian yard-long varieties); best picked about the pencil size; should pick them regularly say twice a week to encourage new flower growth hence more beans. – stringless, tender, mildly sweet, nutty, meaty, savory yet crisp. Whole Foods charges $4-$5 for a pound of organic regular snap beans, but yours can be the most fresh that money can’t buy! Full sun & fertile well drained soil is preferred. Sow seeds outdoor several weeks after last frost (i.e. mid to late spring), or start seedlings indoor couple weeks before the last frost. Soak the seeds overnight, cover the seeds with 1” fine soil, space them 8-12” apart. Rows should be 18-24” apart, but no more than two rows for any pole bean varieties. Seeds should germinate in 7 to 10 days if daytime temperature is above 60F. These vigorous vines require climbing support, such as A-frame, trellis, arbor, chain link fence or cattle panels. My favorite method is bending a 4’x16’ cattle panel into an arch say 5’ wide & 6’ high, plant 6-8 seeds on each side of 4’ grid section, totaling 24-32 seeds. Ideally, you should be able to harvest about a pound of beans per vine for zone 5 or warmer. BTW, Fortex bean seeds are huge, twice as big/heavy compared to other filet beans.

The beans can in good shape but were delayed because the address label was smeared and hard to read.
