DIGITALIS: Digitalis is a genus of about 20 species of herbaceous perennials, shrubs, and biennials that are commonly called foxgloves. The scientific name means “finger-like” and refers to the ease with which a flower of Digitalis purpurea can be fitted over a human fingertip. The flowers are produced on a tall spike, are tubular, and vary in colour with species, from purple to pink, white, and yellow. So the story goes that a young Irish nursery girl was told to clear a trayful of old Foxglove plants. They all succumbed with the exception of this, ‘Elsie Kelsey’, which had beautiful snowhite bells and a raspberry jam lip. Positively stunning and a feast for bees. Hardy in zones 3-10. I was very impressed and happy with my white feather hostas. I was a little worried and skeptical about them at first but the price was hard to beat especially compared to my local nursery. The plants came well packaged (no instructions) and seemed healthy. I planted them in some pots with pine bark and parked them under my grow light. I noticed growth after 3 days and after 7 could see the beginnings of leaves. Very happy and will be ordering more!
